HYROX Abu Dhabi: A Fitness Spectacle

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, in partnership with HYROX and ADNEC Abu Dhabi, successfully hosted HYROX, the world’s largest indoor fitness race and a landmark event in the Middle East’s fitness calendar.

Held on Sunday, the event saw a remarkable turnout of 3,506 athletes from around the world, including 213 professional competitors.

Women accounted for 41% of the participants, with the 30-35 age group leading as the largest demographic.

Competitors from 124 nationalities took part, including 340 Emiratis. The United Kingdom led the representation with 24% of participants, followed by the UAE at 9%, and Ireland and the Philippines, each contributing 5.25%.

The Race Format

HYROX challenges participants with a unique combination of fitness and endurance. The course featured eight 1km running laps, each followed by a functional fitness workout.

Exercises ranged from sled pushes and wall balls to burpees and rowing, creating a rigorous full-body workout.

Participants could choose from various categories, including Individual (Men and Women), Doubles (Men, Women, Mixed), Doubles Pro, Individual Pro, Relay Teams (4 persons), and a dedicated category for People of Determination.

The event kicked off with the men’s race at 7:00 a.m., leading into a full day of competition, and wrapped up with the men’s relay at 9:00 p.m.

Award ceremonies were held throughout the day, beginning at 12:45 p.m. and running until 10:45 p.m., celebrating the efforts of all participants.

A Community-Driven Success

The event attracted over 12,000 spectators, who came to cheer on the runners and energize the atmosphere.

Talal Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said, “Hosting HYROX in Abu Dhabi underscores our commitment to promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle by bringing world-class events that blend challenge and excitement while being inclusive of all community segments.

It aligns perfectly with the national initiative ‘Year of the Community,’ which aims to foster a cohesive and thriving society.”
