UFC fans in Abu Dhabi were treated to a special display on Wednesday as fighters showcased their skills during public workouts at Yas Mall.
Headlining Saturday’s UFC Fight Night at Etihad Arena, Robert Whittaker and Reinier de Ridder were among the standout names giving spectators an exclusive look into their intense preparations.
Former UFC middleweight champion Whittaker is eager to redeem himself after a tough first-round submission loss to Khamzat Chimaev during his last bout in the UAE capital at UFC 308 in October.
Meanwhile, de Ridder enters the octagon on a strong three-fight win streak since joining the UFC last year, defeating Gerald Meerschaert, Kevin Holland, and Bo Nickal—all inside the distance.
Speaking about his upcoming challenge, Whittaker praised de Ridder’s credentials. “He’s a well-accomplished fighter," Whittaker said.
"He’s been around the track many times, fought for titles, had titles, and he’s got a lot of divisions. It’s going to be a hard fight, and I look forward to the test that comes up.”
De Ridder, equally prepared for the clash, shared his determination in an interview with The National. “It’s a big night for me.
He’s a former champion in the promotion, and he’s experienced and well-traveled. But I’ve been training like mad and am ready to take him on,” he said.
Another fighter drawing attention at the mall was former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan, who is set to face Marcus McGhee in Saturday’s co-main event.
Yan, currently riding the momentum of victories over Song Yadong and Deiveson Figueiredo, is eyeing a return to title contention.
Confident about his chances, the Russian fighter said, “I hope that my win this weekend will confirm and guarantee that I’m next for the title shot.”
With fans buzzing in anticipation, UFC Fight Night promises to deliver an electrifying evening at the Etihad Arena, showcasing some of the sport’s finest athletes at their peak.
