Dubai, November 10—Prepare for an exhilarating morning as the bustling Sheikh Zayed Road transforms into a cyclist's paradise for the annual Dubai Ride event.
Starting at dawn, thousands of cyclists will replace cars on this iconic road. This year, the much-anticipated event is back and open for registration.
Coinciding with the Dubai Fitness Challenge, a month-long festival promoting health and fitness, the organizers announced a thrilling new feature on October 10—introducing Speed Laps.
This high-speed cycling adventure caters to thrill-seekers looking for an adrenaline rush.
Now celebrating its fifth edition, Dubai Ride is the region's largest community cycling event, welcoming cyclists of varying ages and abilities.
Here's everything you need to know to claim your spot before time runs out.
Introducing Speed Laps
The newly launched Dubai Ride Speed Laps offers an exciting challenge for experienced cyclists aged 21 and over.
Scheduled from 5 am to 6 am along a 12km circuit, this section has no speed restrictions, allowing participants to enjoy the excitement of high-speed cycling on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Participants must keep a minimum speed of 30 km/h, have a suitable bike, and follow the guidance of the Dubai Ride Marshals.
After completing the Speed Laps, cyclists can join family and friends in the main event.
Registration Details
Registration for Dubai Ride and Dubai Speed Laps is handled separately. You can currently register for the Dubai Ride on the event’s website, while registration for the Speed Laps begins on Monday, October 14.
Speed Laps Requirements
To participate in the Speed Laps, cyclists must meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a minimum speed of 30 km/h.
- Have experience riding in a group (peloton).
- Own a bike that can sustain the required speed.
- Follow the instructions of the Dubai Ride Marshals.
Dubai Ride Routes
For the main event, participants can choose between two routes:
- 4km Downtown Family Route: This flat course runs along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, passing landmarks like Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera, and the Burj Khalifa, perfect for cyclists of all skill levels.
- 12km Sheikh Zayed Road Route: Spanning from the Dubai World Trade Centre to Safa Park and back, this route includes an ascent over the Dubai Canal Bridge, suitable for more skilled cyclists.
Starting Points
Cyclists can select their starting location during registration for the Dubai Ride. There are five starting points for the Sheikh Zayed Road route and one for the Downtown Family route:
- Museum of the Future
- Al Satwa
- Coca-Cola Arena
- Business Bay
- Lower Financial Street
Event Times
Dubai Ride starts at 6:15 am, and participants must enter their chosen start gate by 7:30 am.
How to Register for Dubai Ride
Secure your place by following these steps:
- Go to dubairide.com and enter your email.
- Complete your details including full name, mobile number, gender, date of birth, and create a password, then click ‘Next’.
- Decide if you need to register children. Adults over 21 can add kids under 13 to their registration, while those aged 13 to 21 can register individually with parental consent.
- Pick your route—either the 12km Sheikh Zayed Road or the 4km Downtown Family route.
- Confirm your ability to complete the chosen route with a functioning bike, helmet, and light.
- Select your starting point and state if you’ll arrive by car or bike (parking details will be provided).
- Provide an emergency contact.
- Agree to the terms and conditions, then click ‘Next’.
After registering, you'll receive a confirmation email. Don’t forget to pick up your bib at Dubai Municipality Zabeel Park 30 x 30 Fitness Village starting October 26, 2024. Bring your registration QR code with you.
Essentials for the Day
Make sure to bring the following:
- A fully functional bicycle (no rentals available)
- A helmet (mandatory)
- Your registration bib number
- A filled water bottle
