HYROX has revolutionized the fitness world by blending functional exercises with running intervals into a competitive and challenging format that is accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
Since the inaugural HYROX event in Hamburg in 2018, the fitness racing series has skyrocketed in popularity and now spans across the globe.
In its seventh season, HYROX events will take place on five continents for the first time, with the debut of HYROX Cape Town in September marking its entry into Africa.
New events in Canada and Belgium will also make their debut this season. The 2024–25 season will see the return of fan-favorite events, with some expanding to meet increasing demand.
HYROX is inclusive and offers participants a chance to qualify for the HYROX World Championship by winning their division's age group. But which division should you choose?
HYROX Race Divisions
Each HYROX event features three different race divisions—Singles, Doubles, and Relay—with a similar format across all.
The Singles and Doubles divisions have Open and Pro categories, further broken down by age groups.
This allows athletes to compete alongside all ages while comparing results within their age bracket.
The race includes eight functional workout stations interspersed with eight 1km runs, completed in a set order regardless of division or category.
With no time limits, HYROX is accessible to all fitness levels, featuring easier and harder categories depending on your fitness and experience.
Singles Open
This solo event requires competitors to complete all eight workout stations and eight 1km runs.
The primary distinction from the Pro format lies in the weight of equipment used during five of the eight stations.
Singles Pro
The most demanding format in HYROX, the Pro division requires individuals to handle significant weights at each fitness station.
The fastest Pro athletes can qualify for the Elite 15—a series for the top 15 HYROX athletes worldwide—culminating in the HYROX World Championship.
Doubles
The Doubles division can be tackled by all-women, all-men, or mixed teams. In mixed events, weights match those in the women's Singles Pro category.
Both team members must complete all eight 1km runs, but they can share the workload at fitness stations, making it somewhat easier than the Singles event due to rest opportunities.
Pro Doubles
The tougher Doubles category, Pro Doubles, increases the weights in line with the Singles Pro category.
Relay
Relay, the most beginner-friendly HYROX division, is perfect for first-timers.
Competing in teams of four, each member completes two legs—a workout station and a 1km run—offering an excellent introduction before moving on to Doubles or Singles events.
