10 Thrilling Spartan Race Obstacles and How to Tackle Them
- A-Frame Cargo
- A massive cargo net climb where strength and careful footwork will get you to the top and back down safely.
- Pro Tip: Move slowly and steadily for better control.
- Sandbag Carry
- Transport a sandbag across uneven surfaces like sand dunes or muddy trails.
- Pro Tip: Shift it across both shoulders to balance the weight evenly.
- Hercules Hoist
- Use a rope and pulley system to lift a heavy sandbag. Lower it carefully back down after hoisting.
- Pro Tip: Squat low for stability, grip firmly, and use your bodyweight to assist with lifting.
- Climb Walls
- Scale either a 4-foot or an 8-foot wall, depending on your race category. This task calls for agility, strength, and coordination.
- Pro Tip: Use steps on the wall for extra support when needed.
- Multi-Rig
- Swing like Tarzan across a frame of bars and rings to go from one side to the other.
- Pro Tip: Build momentum with each swing—practice hanging on bars beforehand.
- Slip Wall
- Climb a slick A-frame wall using a rope for assistance. The surface is slippery, so expect a challenge.
- Pro Tip: Go for the longest rope to maximize support and ease your climb.
- Olympus
- An angled wall with holes, rock-climbing holds, and chains to help you make your way across. Tough but rewarding!
- Pro Tip: Focus on gripping only the holes and rock holds to stay in control.
- Barbed Wire Crawl
- Crawl underneath sharp barbed wire—simple, but staying low is essential.
- Pro Tip: Keep as close to the ground as possible for better speed and efficiency.
- Spear Throw
- Aim for a target 25 feet away. For the throw to count, the spear must stick.
- Pro Tip: Toss any extra rope over the barricade before throwing. Aim slightly above the center of the target.
- Fire Jump
-
- The last hurdle is a leap of triumph over a fire pit. Complete this, and the race is yours!
- Pro Tip: Avoid the middle where the fire burns widest—stick closer to the edges.
