Free fitness is everywhere in Dubai this summer

You do not need a big budget to stay active through August. Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2026 has turned parts of the city into free places to move, and the headline act is the Dubai Mallathon. Malls across Dubai open early as air-conditioned walking and running tracks every morning from 6am to 10am, completely free with no registration needed for the daily laps. Confirmed venues include Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Mirdif City Centre and Dubai Festival City Mall, with more malls taking part across the city.

It is popular for a reason. Gulf News reports the first edition in 2025 set a Guinness World Record for the largest mall running event, drawing more than 40,000 participants. This year there are dedicated sessions for women, seniors and people of determination, with qualified trainers on hand at every venue, and wristbands that unlock offers at stores and cafes.

More free ways to move

  • Special Mallathon races: a New Balance x Common Grounds edition runs on 28 August at Dubai Hills Mall, pairing a morning run with a recovery breakfast (this one needs registration).
  • Dubai Sports World: at the Dubai World Trade Centre until 25 August, with indoor courts across several sports plus a free gym and indoor track.
  • Group energy: if solo laps get repetitive, a group fitness class keeps the intensity up and the boredom down.

There are paid options too, including an indoor Endurance Games multisport festival on 30 August, padel sessions and recovery packages. But the free activities alone are enough to keep most people moving all summer.

What to do when the season ends

Here is the honest catch: DSS is seasonal. The Mallathon wraps on 15 September and Dubai Sports World closes on 25 August. If you have used the summer to build a walking or running habit, the worst thing you can do is let it stop with the season. The fix is simple: take it indoors somewhere that stays open all year. A gym gives you the same air-conditioned comfort in July or January, plus strength equipment and indoor conditioning workouts that a mall lap alone cannot. Prefer a women-only space? Our ladies-only gym carries the same idea further.

Wherever you live, there is likely a GymNation in Dubai close by to keep the routine going long after the last Mallathon lap.

Keep the summer momentum going

DSS is a brilliant, free nudge to get moving, and the trick is not stopping when the offers end. If a free morning run reminded you how good moving feels, carry it straight into a year-round routine: come try GymNation with a free day pass and see how the habit feels with a full gym behind it.
