The Emirates Villages Run Series 2026 is a different kind of running event. Instead of one big city race, it takes a community run over 5km, 10km and a shorter family distance to a different UAE village every weekend this autumn, pairing the running with Emirati food, music and heritage. It is open to every level, from first-time walkers to club runners, and it is one of the friendliest ways in the country to turn a weekend into a real fitness goal. Here is what the series involves, how to pick your distance, and how to get ready for your village race.

What is the Emirates Villages Run Series 2026?

The series is organised by the Emirates Council for Balanced Development, and it is built on the idea that the country's smaller villages deserve a moment in the spotlight. According to Khaleej Times, it visits seven villages across the UAE, one in each emirate, with a race staged at a new location almost every weekend from October to December. Each stop is as much a cultural day out as a race, with traditional Emirati performances, village farms and old alleyways forming the backdrop. The opening race in Qidfa, Fujairah drew nearly 500 runners, according to The National, setting the tone for a friendly, family-first series that also aims to support small village businesses.

The 2026 village calendar

A new race lands in a new emirate almost every weekend, so you can choose a stop that suits your location or simply a village you have always wanted to explore:

Which distance should you choose?

According to The National, every stop offers three races over 1.5km, 5km and 10km, so there is a sensible option whatever your starting point:

  • 1.5km: ideal for young children, absolute beginners, or anyone who wants to walk it with the family.
  • 5km: the sweet spot for most first-timers, long enough to feel like an achievement and very doable with a few weeks of easy training.
  • 10km: the challenge for confident runners who already cover shorter distances comfortably.

A simple plan to get race-ready

Because a new race lands almost every weekend, you can pick a stop a few weeks away and train towards it. If you are starting close to scratch and aiming at the 5km, this four-week build works well, and one of our personal trainers can tailor it to your pace:

  1. Week 1: walk or jog three times for about 20 minutes, keeping it easy enough that you can still talk.
  2. Week 2: keep the three sessions, and stretch one of them out towards 3km.
  3. Week 3: cover a continuous 4 to 5km at a relaxed pace at least once.
  4. Week 4: ease off, keep your runs short, and arrive at your chosen village fresh.

What a village race day is like

The races start in the late afternoon, with The National reporting a 4pm start, so the worst of the heat has eased and the light is at its best for the scenery. Expect a relaxed, community atmosphere rather than an elite field, with music, stalls and families along the route. A few simple things make the day easier:

  • Arrive with time to park, collect your number and warm up, because village venues are smaller than a city start line.
  • Bring water and wear light, breathable kit suited to a warm afternoon.
  • Stay on after your race for the heritage displays and local food, which are half the point of the series.

How to register and join

Registration is open through the official Emirates Villages Run Series website, where you choose your village and your distance. Because the series moves around the country, it is worth planning which stop suits you, whether that is your home emirate or somewhere new to discover. Signing up for a specific date is the easiest way to commit to your training over the coming weeks.
