What Dubai Police has planned
According to Al Khaleej, Dubai Police has launched a season of 14 cycling events over eight months, organised with the UAE Cycling Union and Dubai Sports Council. Emirates 24|7 reports the calendar runs roughly from September 2026 to April 2027 and includes the Dubai Police Triathlon, the Proud of the UAE Race, the Positive Spirit Race, Ride with Police, a Mountain Bike Challenge and the Proud of the UAE UCI Championship. The stated aim is simple: make sport part of everyday life and bring the community together on two wheels.
Who can take part?
Just about anyone. The official Dubai Media Office describes the community rides, such as Run and Ride With Police, as welcoming all fitness levels, from beginners to professionals, on a safe and professionally organised track. You can join on your own, with friends or as a family, and Dubai Police's own riders take part alongside the public. Earlier community editions ran at the Dubai Autodrome, a closed circuit that is ideal for a first ride because there is no traffic to worry about. Because the whole season is built around community rather than competition, there is no pressure to be fast, and simply turning up is the only real requirement.
How to train for your first ride
You do not need months of preparation to enjoy a community ride, but a few weeks of easy build-up makes it far more fun. A simple plan:
- Ride three times a week, keeping the pace easy enough to hold a conversation.
- Add a little distance each week rather than pushing hard on any single ride.
- Include one slightly longer ride at the weekend to get used to time in the saddle.
- Practise starting, stopping and signalling so group riding feels natural.
Before your first ride, run a quick check: firm tyres, working brakes, and a saddle set so your leg almost straightens at the bottom of the pedal stroke. If you would rather build your cycling engine indoors first, a studio spin bike lets you work on leg strength and stamina in a cool, controlled room before you head outside.
Beating the heat on the bike
Dubai's climate is the one thing a new rider must respect. Ride in the cooler early morning or evening rather than the middle of the day, and check the forecast for humidity as well as temperature. Drink water before you set off, carry a bottle and sip regularly rather than waiting until you are thirsty, and top up again afterwards. Wear light, breathable kit, use sunscreen, and always wear a helmet. If you feel dizzy, get a headache or stop sweating, stop riding, get into the shade and cool down.
Build your cycling fitness at GymNation
The community rides are a great goal, and the fitter you arrive, the more you will enjoy them. To build the leg strength and endurance that make riding feel easy, book an indoor cycling RPM class at GymNation and train your engine in the cool before the season heats up. Then take that fitness out to a Dubai Police ride and enjoy the road.
