Abu Dhabi's autumn running calendar has a warm new addition, and it comes with a cause. Miral is bringing its Run for Impact community race to the Yas Bay Waterfront on Sunday 25 October 2026, with 3km, 5km and 10km routes that anyone can enter, whatever their pace. If you have been meaning to lace up and start running, a friendly morning event on the water is one of the best on-ramps there is, and this one raises money to protect one of the desert's rarest animals along the way.

What is the Run for Impact at Yas Bay?
The event is organised by Miral through its IMPACT by Miral conservation programme. According to Al Khaleej, Miral is holding the run at Yas Bay Waterfront on Sunday 25 October 2026, with 3km, 5km and 10km routes open to all ages and fitness levels. Registration is done through the Abu Dhabi Marathon page, and the entry fee is kept deliberately low so cost is never the reason to stay home. Every participant lines up on the same waterfront course, from a first-timer walking the 3km to a seasoned runner chasing a 10km time.
A cause worth running for
This is not just a fun run. As tbreak.com reports, proceeds support Arabian sand cat research and conservation, and the species is listed as endangered on Abu Dhabi's Red List. The Arabian sand cat is one of the rarest desert animals in the region, and it is one of four conservation priorities that IMPACT by Miral has set for 2026. Al Ain Zoo, one of the event partners, runs family activities from 6:00am to 10:00am, including face painting, photo moments and wildlife trivia with prizes, so the morning works just as well for families as it does for runners.
Which distance is right for you?
The three distances are there so you can match the run to where your fitness is today, not where you wish it were. Here is a simple way to choose:
- 3km: perfect for a first-ever event, a brisk walk-run, or bringing the kids along.
- 5km: a great target if you already walk regularly and can jog for a few minutes at a time.
- 10km: a rewarding challenge for anyone who runs a couple of times a week and wants a goal to train towards.
How to train for the run in Abu Dhabi
There is still time to prepare, and the smart approach is a steady build-up rather than a rush. Running coaches at Marathon Handbook note that a couch-to-10k build-up usually takes 8 to 12 weeks, with three run-walk sessions a week, easy pacing and gradual progression, and they advise beginners to repeat a week rather than push too hard. With the event in late October, you have enough runway for a first 3km or 5km if you start now and stay consistent.
Keep the early sessions conversational, so you can still talk while you run. Alternate one to two minutes of easy jogging with a minute of walking, and add a little running each week as it gets easier. A weekend gym session that builds your legs and core will protect your knees and hips as the distance climbs, and a rest day between runs is where the adaptation actually happens.
Make the most of the early start
The start times are built around Abu Dhabi's cooler autumn mornings, which is exactly when you want to be running. Al Khaleej reports that the 10km begins at 6:45am, the 5km at 7:00am and the 3km at 7:15am, with bib collection from 5:30am and an awards ceremony at 9:00am. Arrive early, pick up your bib without stress, and use the quiet waterfront to warm up properly.
A few race-morning habits make the day smoother:
- Lay out your kit, bib and shoes the night before.
- Eat a light breakfast a couple of hours ahead and sip water rather than gulp it.
- Warm up with five minutes of easy movement before your wave.
- Start slower than feels natural, because you can always speed up in the final stretch.
