According to Al Khaleej, Al Hajri and Al Humairi head to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for the championship, which the Asian Weightlifting Federation confirms runs from 7 to 14 August 2026. The pair are no strangers to the podium: Al Khaleej reports that Al Humairi collected six golds at the 2024 Arab Championship in Qatar, while Al Hajri picked up two bronzes there and three more at the West Asia Championship. They travel with head coach Avinash Pandu and assistant coach Mohamed Fathy.
Olympic weightlifting — the snatch and the clean and jerk — looks explosive, and it is. But the reason these athletes can move serious weight fast is years of patient, precise practice. The good news for the rest of us is that the same principles make any strength routine safer and more effective.
The fundamentals behind every good lift
- Technique before load: a movement done well with a light bar beats a heavy one done badly. Groove the pattern first.
- Progressive overload: add a little — weight, reps or quality — over weeks, not all at once. Small, steady jumps are what stick.
- Full range, braced core: control the bar through the whole movement and keep your midsection tight to protect your back.
- Rest and recover: strength is built between sessions, so sleep and spacing matter as much as the work itself.
Where to start if the barbell is new
You do not need a competition on the horizon to train like a lifter. Our barbell strength classes are a friendly way to learn the big lifts in a group, while our exercise library walks you through each movement step by step. If you want eyes on your form, a personal trainer can fine-tune your setup so every rep counts and nothing hurts that shouldn't.
