What is happening at DXB

For the first time, the Dubai Mallathon has moved beyond shopping malls and into an airport. DXB Terminal 3 Departures is being temporarily converted into an air-conditioned indoor walking track, with sessions every Friday in August and a final DXB session on 28 August; the wider citywide programme runs through 15 September 2026. The initiative was launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and aligns with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033.

The first DXB session brought Dubai Airports employees, the oneDXB community and People of Determination together for two morning walks. The idea is simple and welcoming: a cool, flat, safe place to move, open to the public. For context on scale, organisers said the 2025 edition recorded more than 120 million steps citywide across participating malls.

Why walking is such good exercise

Walking rarely gets the credit it deserves. It is free, low-impact, and something almost anyone can do — and the benefits stack up fast.

  • Heart health. Regular brisk walking is one of the simplest ways to support your heart and circulation.
  • Mood and stress. A daily walk is a proven reset for a busy mind, especially first thing in the morning.
  • Joint-friendly. Unlike high-impact training, walking is gentle enough to do every day, whatever your fitness level.
  • It adds up. Steps taken through the day count just as much as a single workout. A walk to the shops, around the office, or through a terminal all go in the same bank.

How to keep moving through a Dubai summer

You do not need an airport to walk indoors. The trick in summer is to bring your steps inside, where the air conditioning does the hard part. Malls, indoor tracks and the gym all work. A treadmill lets you walk at a steady pace or add an incline to make it count, and pairing your walks with a couple of indoor fitness classes keeps things varied. If you like a target to chase, our fitness calculators can help you set a realistic daily goal and track it. Aim for consistency over big single efforts.

Find your nearest indoor track this summer

The Mallathon runs on Fridays, but your step count does not have to. If you want a cool place to walk and train every day of the week, find your nearest GymNation in Dubai and make the treadmill your summer walking track. Small steps, taken often, really do add up.
