The region's biggest functional-fitness race is back in the capital, and the hyrox abu dhabi 2026 date is now locked in: the event runs 23-25 October at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, HYROX Abu Dhabi is organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council alongside HYROX, and this year Friday opens with a first-ever women-only race day. Whether you want to enter or simply understand what your gym friends keep training for, here is what the race actually involves and how to build up to it from scratch.

What HYROX Abu Dhabi 2026 is

HYROX is a mass-participation fitness race that mixes running with functional-training stations, and it is run to the same standard everywhere in the world. Abu Dhabi's edition takes over ADNEC across the weekend of 23-25 October 2026. It has a real community behind it: Aletihad reported that the previous Abu Dhabi edition drew 3,506 athletes from 124 nationalities, with women making up 41 percent of the field.

You do not have to be an elite athlete to take part. There is a division for almost everyone:

  • Singles in men's and women's categories, the classic one-person race.
  • Doubles for pairs, whether men's, women's or mixed, splitting the work between you.
  • Relay for teams of four, each person taking a share of the runs and stations.
  • Pro divisions for advanced athletes who want the heavier loads.
  • Adaptive, a division for athletes with physical disabilities.

The eight stations, one run at a time

Every HYROX race is the same shape: eight 1km runs, and after each run you tackle one workout station before heading back out to the track. That is 8km of running in total, broken up by eight tests of strength and grit, always in this order (Open-division numbers shown):

OrderStationOpen standard
1SkiErg1,000m
2Sled Push50m, 152kg men / 102kg women
3Sled Pull50m, 103kg men / 78kg women
4Burpee Broad Jumps80m
5Rowing1,000m
6Farmers Carry200m, 2x24kg men / 2x16kg women
7Sandbag Lunges100m, 20kg men / 10kg women
8Wall Balls100 reps, 6kg men / 4kg women

The order never changes, which is good news when you train: you always know what is coming next, and you can rehearse the exact sequence that empties your legs before the wall balls at the end.

Friday 23 October is a women-only race day

The standout change this year is the opening day. What's On reports that Friday 23 October is dedicated exclusively to female athletes and spectators, a first for the Abu Dhabi race. For a lot of women, a supportive, women-only environment is exactly what makes a first competition feel possible, and it fits the strong momentum behind women's fitness across the UAE.

How to train for HYROX from zero

You have enough weeks between now and late October to arrive ready if you start with a plan rather than random sessions. A simple, honest build looks like this:

  1. Build a running base first. Get comfortable running 5km at an easy pace, then practise short runs with a workout in between so your legs learn to move when tired.
  2. Add the functional movements. Wall balls, lunges, rowing and sled work all show up on the floor, so rehearse them weekly with light loads and clean technique before you chase numbers.
  3. Practise the transitions. The race is won and lost moving from run to station, so train a few run-then-station combos back to back.
  4. Sharpen in the final weeks. Run one or two full or half simulations at race effort, then ease off so you arrive fresh.

Pick a division that matches where you are today, not where you wish you were. Doubles and relay are a brilliant way in if a full solo race feels like a lot for a first attempt, and they turn the whole thing into a day out with friends.
