The Ripe Market Community Run is back in Dubai, and this season it is a proper series rather than a single race day. According to What's On, the run returns for its ninth edition at Dubai Police Academy Park, with six race days spread from October 2026 through to May 2027. Each run finishes inside the Ripe Market itself, so you cross the line straight into a weekend of stalls, food and family entertainment. If you have been meaning to start running, an all-ages community run across the cooler months is about as friendly a place to begin as this city offers.

What is the Ripe Market Community Run?

It is a season-long community running series held at Dubai Police Academy Park in Umm Suqeim, open to all ages and every fitness level, children included. The 2026-27 season runs across six Sundays, each offering a choice of four distances, and a single season pass covers all six if you want to make it a regular habit. You register online through the Visit Dubai website by choosing your race date and distance, and spots tend to fill quickly, so it is worth booking early rather than waiting for the week of the run.

When and where each race takes place

All six races are held at Dubai Police Academy Park, and the start times split between early mornings and evenings, so there is a slot to suit most schedules. Here is the full 2026-27 calendar:

  • Sunday 4 October 2026, 7am start
  • Sunday 13 December 2026, 7am start
  • Sunday 10 January 2027, 6pm start
  • Sunday 14 February 2027, 6pm start
  • Sunday 14 March 2027, 7am start
  • Sunday 2 May 2027, 6pm start

The morning races are the ones to target if you want to run in the coolest part of the day, while the evening slots suit anyone who prefers to train after work.

Which distance should you choose?

Every race day offers the same four distances, which makes this series a genuinely good place to progress. You can start short and move up a step each time you feel ready. The shortest option, 2.5km, is ideal for a first-ever event or for younger runners in the family. The 5km is the classic beginner goal and the most popular community distance worldwide. The 10km is a satisfying step up once 5km feels comfortable, and the 15km is there for regular runners who want a real challenge. Because the distance is yours to pick on the day, nobody is left behind, and you can bring the whole family and each run your own race.

How to train for your first 5k

If the 5km is your target, you have time to build up to it properly before the season gets going. As Marathon Handbook explains, a couch-to-5k build-up usually takes about eight weeks of three run and walk sessions a week, with easy, conversational pacing and a rest or gentle cross-training day in between. The golden rule for beginners is to repeat a week rather than rush, and to build an aerobic base before you worry about speed. A simple progression looks like this:

  1. Weeks 1 to 2: alternate one minute of easy running with two minutes of walking, repeated for about 20 to 25 minutes.
  2. Weeks 3 to 4: stretch the running intervals to two or three minutes and shrink the walking breaks.
  3. Weeks 5 to 6: run five to ten minutes at a time with short walks, until you can cover most of the distance running.
  4. Weeks 7 to 8: put it together with one steady, continuous run that reaches your 5km, at a pace where you can still hold a conversation.

Strength work twice a week, even simple squats, lunges and core, keeps your knees and hips happy as the distance climbs. None of this is medical advice, so if you are returning from injury or a long break, ease in and listen to your body.

Make a morning of it at the market

Part of the charm of this series is where it finishes. The Ripe Market is back at Dubai Police Academy Park for its 15th season, open Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 9pm, so your run ends right in the middle of a busy weekend market. There are independent UAE brands and small businesses, food vendors from breakfast and coffee to street food, live performances, and wellness sessions including yoga and Pilates. It turns a race into a proper morning out, which is exactly why community runs like this one are such an easy way to build a running habit that sticks.
