Run for the Nation Abu Dhabi returns on 29 November 2026, giving the UAE community a free mass-participation sport event with 3km, 5km and 10km options. If local running goals motivate you, Run for Impact Yas Bay is another Abu Dhabi community run showing the city’s growing fitness culture.

According to Abu Dhabi Media Office, the second edition of Run for the Nation, also known in Arabic as Hassantak Ya Watan, is expected to welcome more than 20,000 UAE nationals and residents. The event is organised by ERTH Abu Dhabi, Etizan Fitness and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The route sets off from Wahat Al Karama and finishes at ERTH Abu Dhabi, according to Abu Dhabi Media Office. Participants can choose their preferred distance through the official event portal, with free registration for the event.

Run for the Nation Abu Dhabi route and distances

The three distances make the day accessible for different fitness levels. That matters for a community event linked to Eid Al Etihad, because it gives families, first-time runners and regular gym-goers a realistic way to take part together.

  • 3km: a short community distance for walkers, casual joggers and anyone who wants to be part of the event without taking on a longer run.
  • 5km: a practical target for newer runners who can already walk regularly and want a clear running goal.
  • 10km: a stronger challenge for runners who have built a steady routine and want to manage their pace over more distance.

ARN News Centre reports that the event coincides with Eid Al Etihad, the UAE National Day celebrations, and is framed around national unity, community spirit and healthy, active living. The same source says a community village at ERTH Abu Dhabi will offer entertainment and family activities for participants and spectators on the day.

According to ARN News Centre, Lieutenant General (Ret.) Mohamed Helal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Organising Committee, said the organisers see Run for the Nation as much more than a sporting event and as a national occasion reflecting the spirit of the UAE. ARN News Centre also reports that Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the event highlights the role of sport in strengthening community ties and encouraging healthy lifestyles.

How to prepare for 3km, 5km or 10km

If you are thinking about entering, keep training simple. A community run is not about trying to prove everything in one session. It is about building enough confidence to enjoy the route, move well and finish with energy.

According to Active.com and NHS Couch to 5K guidance, coaches commonly use run-walk intervals for beginners. That means alternating easy running with walking breaks, then reducing the walking gradually over several weeks as confidence and endurance improve. This can be especially useful if your fitness base comes from gym training, cycling, classes or regular walking rather than outdoor running.

Use these training principles as general guidance:

  • Build gradually: Active.com describes gradual distance increases as a common coaching guideline, with many coaches citing roughly a 10 percent weekly increase rather than a sudden jump.
  • Keep easy runs easy: Active.com notes that easy running should feel conversational, meaning you can talk while moving.
  • Match your sessions to your chosen distance: if you choose 5km, practise steady efforts close to that distance. If you choose 10km, build more time on your feet.
  • Begin race day calmly: coaches commonly advise choosing a pace you know you can sustain, then finishing stronger if you feel good.

Strength training can also support your running goal. Lower-body work helps you feel stable. Core training helps you hold posture when you get tired. Low-impact cardio can build fitness without making every session a run. None of this needs to be complicated. The best plan is the one you can repeat consistently.

Why the event has a bigger community message

Run for the Nation sits inside Abu Dhabi’s wider mass-participation sport culture, where events give people a reason to train, meet others and connect movement with national occasions. Gulf News has also reported on the Run for the Nation and Zayed Charity Run framing in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Media Office says the event builds on the legacy of the Zayed Charity Run, launched in 2001 to honour the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. That background gives the run meaning beyond the finish line, while the 3km, 5km and 10km choices keep the event open to a broad mix of participants.

For regular gym-goers, the appeal is clear. A run like this turns weekly training into something social and memorable. Treadmill sessions, strength classes and mobility work can all feed into a community goal. If you have been looking for a reason to add running to your routine, this is a friendly one.

If Run for the Nation has given you a target, build the habit steadily and keep it enjoyable. To train in a supportive gym environment before your next community run, fill in the enquiry form.
