The Emirates has just locked in the dates for one of its biggest sporting weeks of the year. Abu Dhabi Sports Council has confirmed that the UAE Tour returns in February 2027, with the women's race on 3-6 February and the men's race on 15-21 February. It is the ninth edition of the men's tour and the fifth of the women's, and even before a single stage route is published, the announcement is a good reminder that world-class endurance sport is a local fixture here, and that the fitness behind it is closer to reach than it looks.
The 2027 dates and who is behind them
Both races are organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, with AD Ports Group as presenting partner and the sport's world body, the UCI, as a collaborating partner. The women's UAE Tour runs first, from 3 to 6 February 2027, followed by the men's race from 15 to 21 February. Organisers frame the 2027 editions around women's cycling, youth and community engagement and sustainability, and as part of the build-up to Abu Dhabi hosting the UCI Road World Championships in 2028. Routes, stages and team line-ups have not been published yet and usually land later in the year, so this is a save-the-date rather than a full course reveal.
"The organisation of the UAE Tour Women and UAE Tour Men 2027 once again underlines the distinguished position the UAE has achieved on the global sporting stage," said Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
The women's race keeps growing
The fifth edition of the women's UAE Tour is the detail worth pausing on. A women's stage race that returns year after year, on the same billing as the men's event, is exactly how a sport widens its base, and it gives girls and women here a clear, local example of elite cycling to follow. You do not have to race to be part of that shift. Riding for fitness, joining a weekend group, or simply getting stronger on the bike all sit on the same ladder as the pros, just lower down, and everyone is welcome on it.
Train like a stage racer, wherever you ride
Stage racing rewards patient, repeatable fitness rather than one big effort, and that is good news for the rest of us, because it is built with consistency, not talent. A structured plan helps, and our personal training team can shape one around your week. Here is where an amateur should start.
- Build an aerobic base. Most of your riding should be steady and conversational, long enough to teach your body to burn fuel efficiently. The base is the engine everything else bolts onto.
- Add a little intensity. One or two harder sessions a week, on the bike or as a HIIT workout, lift your top-end without swallowing your recovery. You can also bring that indoors in a studio cycling class when the roads are busy.
- Pace for the heat. The Gulf climate is a real variable. Ride early, drink before you are thirsty, and start climbs and hard efforts a notch easier than you think, because heat pushes your heart rate up on its own.
- Respect the wind. Open desert roads mean crosswinds, which can make a flat route feel like a climb. Learn to sit in a group, share the work, and read the wind rather than fight it.
- Support the bike with strength. Off-bike work on the legs, hips and core protects your position over long hours and helps you hold power late in a ride.
Two or three focused sessions a week, easy days kept genuinely easy, and steady progress over months will take most riders further than any single heroic weekend ever does.
