The AFC Asian Cup 2027 is scheduled to run from January 7 to February 5, 2027, across three cities in Saudi Arabia—Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar, as announced by the AFC on Tuesday.
Riyadh will host matches in five stadiums, including King Fahd Sports City Stadium, King Saud University Stadium, Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud University Stadium, Kingdom Arena, and Al Shabab Stadium.
Jeddah will host games at two venues—King Abdullah Sports City and Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium.
Meanwhile, Al Khobar is set to feature a new, state-of-the-art stadium, completing the world-class facilities planned for the tournament, which will feature Asia’s top 24 national teams.
Saudi Arabia was confirmed as the host nation for the AFC Asian Cup 2027 in 2023. Notably, this marks the first time Saudi Arabia will host the tournament.
Yasser Al Misehal, the chief of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, expressed the significance of finalizing the dates and venues for the event.
He stated, “Confirming the dates and selecting the stadiums for the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ is a strategic milestone in our journey to host the tournament.
This announcement goes beyond simply identifying locations and schedules; it reflects the ongoing high-level collaboration between us and the AFC as we work towards delivering an exceptional tournament that fulfills the aspirations of the entire Asian continent."
Eighteen teams have already secured their spots in the AFC Asian Cup 2027.
The remaining places will be determined through the Qualifiers Final Round, which starts in March 2025 and involves six groups of four teams. The group winners will earn a place in the final lineup.
India, aiming for its fifth appearance in the tournament, has been placed in Group C along with Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh.
The team hopes to replicate or surpass its 2019 performance, which demonstrated considerable progress on the continental stage. (Agency)
