THE CURRENT SITUATION

Messi, the Argentine superstar, has been playing in Major League Soccer (MLS) since joining Inter Miami in 2023, opting at the time to chase the American dream despite tempting offers from the Middle East.

WHAT’S CHANGED?

During his time in MLS, Messi has achieved several notable milestones, including winning the Leagues Cup and the Supporters’ Shield while also earning the title of Most Valuable Player for 2024.

However, his current contract with Inter Miami is set to expire at the end of the year, with no extension confirmed. While there is a 12-month option in place, Messi is now free to explore offers from clubs outside of the United States.

AL-AHLI’S AMBITIOUS BID

According to reports from L’Equipe, Al-Ahli is making a determined push to bring Messi to Saudi Arabia in December.

Although financial details of the proposal have not been disclosed, Saudi authorities are reportedly “doing everything they can to tip the scales” in their favor.

The aim is to provide the 38-year-old icon with a fresh challenge while capitalizing on Messi’s global appeal. Reuniting Messi and Ronaldo in the same league would undoubtedly elevate the Saudi Pro League’s global profile.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR MESSI?

If the transfer goes through, it would allow Messi to revisit his historic rivalry with Ronaldo in the twilight years of their careers.

Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al-Nassr, recently extended his own contract by another two years.

Having previously faced off in gripping El Clásico clashes between Barcelona and Real Madrid, a Saudi Pro League showdown would be a reunion for the ages.

Additionally, both legends are gearing up to represent their countries at the 2026 World Cup, adding extra intrigue to this potential move.

Al-Ahli’s ambitious bid to secure one of the greatest players of all time adds yet another fascinating twist to Messi’s illustrious career.
