Do you think you have what it takes to sail like Sindbad or climb like a monkey? If so, challenge yourself at Arabian Warrior, an obstacle course event created in the UAE.
It's happening on Dubai Islands this Saturday, coinciding with the start of the Dubai Fitness Challenge. Over 2,000 participants have already confirmed their attendance, and there's still time to register.
One of the challenges, called the Arabian Leopard Crawl, involves crawling, while the Sinbad-inspired water obstacle honors the legendary sailor believed to be from Iraq.
Another challenge, Jebel Arabia, requires participants to climb a net.
Other obstacles include the Baboon, where participants swing on tires to move from one platform to another, and Sub Zero, where they slide into an ice bath.
"We're aiming to bring a unique experience from the UAE to the world," stated Sheikh Abdullah, who mentioned plans to take Arabian Warrior international, starting with Riyadh and Doha next year.
Some obstacles are tough, and with forecasts predicting highs of 34ºC on Saturday, the heat adds to the challenge.
Participants in the 10km, 20km, and 50km categories must complete as many loops as they can handle.
Still, the Arabian Warrior team encourages families to join in. There are various categories, including the beginner-friendly 5km Al Muharib course with about 10 obstacles.
Ladies-only and children-only races are available, with the latter featuring a mini-course with simpler obstacles.
Additionally, a fan village is being set up, complete with food trucks from vendors like Protein House, Krush Burger, and Coffee Island.
A DJ will entertain both participants and spectators, who can also enjoy activities such as an ice bath challenge.
Arabian Warrior will take place on Dubai Islands on Saturday, October 26, starting at 7 am, with entry fees beginning at Dh50.
Supported by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Sharqi of Fujairah, The National got an early look at the 20 obstacles on one of the man-made islands near Deira.
Like other obstacle races, such as Spartan and Tough Mudder, Arabian Warrior features climbing walls, jumping, swinging ropes, crawling under fences, balancing on beams, and more.
The distance between obstacles is challenging in itself, as the course spans up to 10km.
In a previous interview, Sheikh Abdullah highlighted that what sets Arabian Warrior apart is its "Made in the UAE" identity.
Many obstacles carry Arabic names or regional references, such as Reach for Jannah, where competitors climb a tall platform at the island's edge. Jannah translates to heaven in Arabic.
