Cleveland Clinic has partnered with app developer FitNow, Inc. to introduce the Cleveland Clinic Diet app.

This app combines evidence-based nutritional science and clinical success with a robust food and fitness tracker.

The app offers personalized support from Cleveland Clinic health experts to help users make sustainable lifestyle and dietary changes for better health.

Julia Zumpano, RD, LD, a registered dietitian at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Human Nutrition, emphasized that health is more than just weight.

The app aims to address individual health goals beyond weight numbers.

"We help individuals overcome barriers and create lasting health improvements by considering their unique needs and preferences," she said.

The app features a series of curated courses from experts in nutrition, endocrinology, metabolism, heart health, digestive health, weight management, and mental health.

It also utilizes FitNow’s user-friendly tracking system, allowing users to log their food intake by scanning nutrition labels, photographing meals, or using voice logging.

Users can choose between two plans:

  • BodyGuard Plan – Focuses on achieving a balanced intake of essential nutrients and mindful sugar monitoring for stable energy levels.

  • HeartSmart Plan – Aims to improve cardiovascular health, whether users have diagnosed heart disease, are concerned about family history, or want to make heart-healthy lifestyle changes.

Developed in collaboration with FitNow, the creators of the popular weight loss app Lose It!, the Cleveland Clinic Diet app aims to combine expert experience with a proven behavior change platform.

"This combination guides users step-by-step toward their individual health goals," said Eric Puidokas, managing director, and Chief Product Officer at FitNow.

Julia Zumpano added, "Our goal is to guide users through managing and sustaining weight, nutrition, and health goals, considering the many factors contributing to better health."

The app, designed by health experts, offers non-judgmental and fad-free support. Features include empathetic content, a comprehensive food search and recommendation engine, AI-powered speech-to-text recognition, image logging of meals, and rapid barcode scanning.

Will Lowe, Ph.D., FitNow’s Chief Data Scientist, highlighted the app’s advanced voice logging accuracy, saying, "Our goal was to launch the most accurate and rapid food voice logging available.

We believe this is a game-changer for those seeking easier meal logging."

The Cleveland Clinic Diet app received a Gold award in the Spring 2024 Digital Health Awards for excellence in the Mobile Application category.
