The eighth edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) ended on a high note, attracting a record 2,735,158 participants, marking a 14% increase from the previous year.
Running from October 26 to November 24, 2024, this city-wide initiative, spearheaded by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, united people of all ages, backgrounds, and fitness levels.
Participants committed to 30 minutes of daily exercise for 30 days, fostering a healthier, more active lifestyle.
The event featured a range of free activities through its 30 x 30 fitness villages and community hubs, making it the most inclusive edition yet.
Over 467,000 participants engaged in offerings at Fitness Villages such as Kite Beach, Zabeel Park, and Al Warqa’a Park.
Additionally, more than 60,000 people joined free workouts at 25 community hubs, which provided classes led by expert trainers.
DFC’s flagship events continued to impress. The Dubai Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) event at Hatta Dam drew over 2,300 paddlers, doubling last year’s turnout, thanks to its scenic views and exciting new activities like kayaking.
Dubai Ride welcomed a record 37,130 cyclists across a 4-km family loop and a challenging 12-km route on Sheikh Zayed Road, along with a new Speed Lap feature for avid cyclists.
Meanwhile, Dubai Run set another milestone as 278,000 participants either took on the 10-km Sheikh Zayed Road route or the 5-km Downtown Dubai course.
Highlights included His Highness Sheikh Hamdan leading the 10K and a guest appearance from R&B icon Jason Derulo.
Participants benefited from a helpful interactive map to easily locate activities, fitness villages, and events citywide.
Partnerships with leading health and fitness apps such as Whoop, ASICS Runkeeper, and Garmin Fitness Festival added further motivation.
Major global brands like Nike, adidas, and Puma hosted engaging activations to support the initiative.
Since its 2017 inception, DFC has inspired over 13 million participants to adopt healthier habits.
Participation keeps growing, with Dubai Ride attendance rising from 20,000 in 2020 to 37,130 in 2024, and Dubai Run participants surging from 70,000 in 2019 to 278,000 this year.
DFC’s impact extends beyond the 30 days, improving physical health, mental well-being, and even sleep quality for many participants.
Research shows that 18% reported enhanced fitness, 15% experienced better mental health, and 83% noticed improved sleep.
The initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision to become one of the world’s most active cities and has driven the development of cutting-edge fitness infrastructure.
With its ongoing dedication to community health, DFC has transformed Dubai into a top-tier fitness destination.
Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council, praised the campaign, highlighting its role in building a healthier and more active community.
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), echoed similar sentiments about DFC’s inclusivity and impact on lives.
DFC also took steps to support underserved groups, hosting women-only Zumba classes for blue-collar workers and holding fitness sessions for seniors, facilitated by Fit Republik, with physiotherapy and activity advice to maintain wellness post-event.
This year’s success was made possible by the collaboration of partners, sponsors, and volunteers committed to advancing the initiative's vision.
