One of the main attractions of the Dubai Fitness Challenge is back this month, featuring a new segment for those eager to race at high speeds.

Dubai Ride, the largest community cycling event in the city, is set for the early hours of Sunday, November 10.

The event is free and will take over the 14-lane Sheikh Zayed Road, welcoming cyclists of all ages and fitness levels.

Initiated in 2017 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, the Dubai Fitness Challenge motivates residents to engage in physical activity for a healthier lifestyle.

The 30x30 challenge encourages people to exercise for at least 30 minutes daily for 30 days.

In support, many venues provide free or discounted classes and sports sessions, as well as a full schedule of community-driven fitness events.

Now in its fifth year, Dubai Ride offers two routes—4km and 12km—starting at dawn from five locations. A new feature, Speed Laps, is designed for skilled cyclists who can maintain an average speed of 30kph and will be the first to kick off at 5am.

Last year, over 35,000 participants joined the event, and organizers are aiming for even higher numbers this year.

What are this year's routes?

Participants can select from two options—the 4km downtown family route or the 12km Sheikh Zayed Road route.

The 4km family route follows Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard and passes by Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera, and the Burj Khalifa. It’s a flat course suitable for all ages and skill levels.

The 12km route travels from Dubai World Trade Centre, past landmarks like the Museum of the Future and Coca-Cola Arena, reaching Safa Park before heading back.

This route includes a climb over the Dubai Canal Bridge, making it more suitable for experienced cyclists.

Individuals of determination have a designated starting area.

When does Dubai Ride start?

Dubai Ride begins at 6:15am, with gates closing at 7:30am. There are five starting points for the Sheikh Zayed Road route and one for the downtown family route. Roads will reopen to traffic at 8:15am.

Participants must bring their own bicycles and wear helmets. All types of bikes are allowed as long as they have at least two wheels, are safe, roadworthy, and have functional brakes. E-bikes are permitted, but scooters are not.

What is Speed Laps?

This year, experienced cyclists can tackle the 12km route on Sheikh Zayed Road at higher speeds before the general participants start.

Held between 5am and 6am, Speed Laps is intended for cyclists who can consistently maintain an average speed of 30kph.

The route stretches from Dubai World Trade Centre to Safa Park and includes a climb over the Dubai Canal Bridge.

Speed Laps has a single starting point at Gate A next to the Museum of the Future. While a minimum speed is required, it is not a race.

Bikes with TT handlebars or clip-on aero bars are prohibited. Participants must be at least 21 years old.

Speed Laps participants can join friends and family for Dubai Ride after finishing but must register separately in advance and have both bibs.

Bib collection

All participants need to wear their numbered bibs. This year, the collection point is at Dubai Municipality Zabeel Park 30 x 30 Fitness Village.

Open until November 9, collection times are Monday to Thursday, from 4pm to 11pm; Friday from 12pm to midnight; and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to midnight.

Participants must bring their registration QR codes to get their bibs.
