The excitement was palpable this morning as Dubai Ride, sponsored by DP World, took over Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown Dubai in the region's largest community cycling event.
This key event of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) attracted a record 37,130 participants, giving both amateur and experienced cyclists a unique chance to view Dubai's iconic landmarks from a bicycle seat.
This year, participants could choose from two different routes: a 4-km scenic loop designed for families around Downtown Dubai, which passed through Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai Opera, and Burj Khalifa; or a 12-km route along Sheikh Zayed Road, passing Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future, and Dubai Water Canal.
Additionally, the event introduced Dubai Ride Speed Laps for seasoned cyclists, adding an adrenaline-pumping element to the morning.
This exciting new feature saw participants challenge themselves by racing down the Sheikh Zayed Road route at an average speed of 30km/h, before joining family and friends for the main event.
In an impressive display of solidarity, top professional triathlete Taylor Spivey from the USA, a silver medalist in triathlon at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and Safia Al Sayegh, who represented the UAE in road cycling at the Paris Olympics, joined the broader community on the 12-km course to express their shared enthusiasm for fitness.
Taylor is visiting for the inaugural Dubai T100 Triathlon World Championship Final at Meydan from November 16-17.
The presence of these renowned athletes not only energized participants but also underscored the wider benefits of leading an active lifestyle, providing inspiration to all attendees.
Adding to the thrill, Dubai Police supercars led the start of Dubai Ride alongside a group of talabat riders.
Making the event even more special was music from DJs, curated by UNTOLD Dubai, while the beloved Modesh World characters Modesh and Dana participated in the fun on the Downtown route, spreading their infectious joy throughout the festivities.
More than just a cycling event, Dubai Ride, backed by DP World, is the ultimate blend of fitness, entertainment, and fun. As part of DFC, it aligns with the vision of H.H.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, to turn Dubai into one of the most active cities globally.
Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council (DSC), stated, “The incredible success of this year’s Dubai Ride showcased the strength of our amazing community.
The record turnout demonstrates our dedication to making Dubai the world’s most active city and encouraging a more active lifestyle, which enhances the quality of life for participants and the larger community.
At the Dubai Sports Council, we are eager to create even more opportunities for fitness and community involvement in the future.”
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), added, “Dubai Ride not only captures the dynamic spirit of our city but also strengthens Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed's vision to promote a healthier, more active lifestyle for everyone.
This year’s edition was particularly remarkable, with participants filling the streets in a dazzling show of community spirit and commitment to health and fitness.
As cyclists of all ages passed iconic city landmarks, a sense of unity and shared commitment was tangible. It has been inspiring to witness the event's impact, highlighting the powerful role of community involvement in creating a healthier future for our city.”
Organized by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and the Dubai Sports Council, this year’s event was supported by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Emaar, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for all participants.
Decathlon was also present to provide repair services, offering free bike repairs at its stores leading up to the event.
Dubai Ride 2024 is presented by DP World, with support from The Brain & Performance Centre – a DP World Company, Decathlon, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), talabat, and Emaar as Association Partners; Dubai Chambers, Emirates, and Mai Dubai as Official Partners; and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Police, and Events Security Committee as Government Partners.
