This summer, GymNation has provided UAE residents a much-needed escape from the intense heat with the introduction of “The Coolest Class in Dubai.”
Combining high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with cold-based challenges, this innovative fitness experience is free for members and non-members alike.
With UAE temperatures hitting 43°C and humidity exceeding 70% during the summer, Rory McEntee, Chief Marketing Officer at GymNation, explained the inspiration behind the concept.
“With Dubai’s summer heat reaching its peak, we saw an opportunity to create something unique for residents. This class is about flipping the narrative and turning the intense heat into a chance to launch an experience no other gym offers.”

The Science Behind Cold Training
Designed for fitness enthusiasts of all levels, the class also draws on proven benefits of exercising in cold environments.
Aderito Manuel, a leading sports scientist, highlights benefits including a 5-11% increase in oxygen volume in the blood, enhanced cardio endurance, and up to 300 kcal/day burned through activation of brown adipose tissue. Studies also show a 17% improvement in pain tolerance after adaptation to cold training.
Unique Cold-Based Challenges
The class features a variety of ice-integrated exercises designed to push participants to their limits while keeping them refreshed, including:
- Blizzard Sprints – Treadmill runs with giant fans for added resistance and cooling.
- Frosted Reps – Weighted squats with ice-filled vests for a strength challenge with a frosty twist.
- Glacier Grip Challenge – Farmer’s carries with ice buckets to test grip and endurance.
- Polar Push – Sled pushes using ice blocks to enhance power and stability.

With sessions running on Saturdays—July 5, 12, 19, and 26—the demand has been staggering.
McEntee mentioned that classes filled up so quickly that a ballot system was introduced to manage participation fairly. “Considering this demand, we’re already exploring options to increase capacity and run additional sessions,” he revealed.
