A study featured in Nature Medicine revealed that intermittent fasting is an effective method for weight loss among overweight and obese adults, particularly when meals are finished before 5 p.m.
Over 12 weeks, researchers monitored 197 participants, dividing them into various groups.
One “early” fasting group ate between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., while a “late” fasting group had meals from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. A third group allowed participants to choose their own preferred eating windows.
The final group followed their usual eating schedules but also attended nutrition and weight management education sessions.
Results showed that all fasting groups lost approximately 7 to 9 pounds on average, outperforming the usual care group.
The early fasting group, which stopped eating by 5 p.m., also reduced more subcutaneous belly fat.
Dr. Manuel Dote-Montero, one of the study’s authors, explained that time-restricted eating—especially ending meals by 5 p.m.—is an effective and practical way to manage weight and decrease abdominal fat.
He added that this approach supports natural circadian rhythms, improving metabolic health.
There are 40 global studies confirming that intermittent fasting can lead to significant weight loss.
Additionally, Vitality Pro reported that 23 percent of people experienced improved sleep after adopting intermittent fasting.
A 2021 study also indicated that intermittent fasting could align with the body’s natural rhythms and potentially help prevent or treat conditions such as obesity and metabolic syndrome.
