The Emirates Foundation has officially opened registration for Misrah, an extraordinary national initiative led by Active Abu Dhabi in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority.

This unique program aims to empower youth aged 18 to 25, fostering a deeper connection to Emirati heritage while promoting physical endurance and personal growth.

Set to launch on August 21, 2025, Misrah invites 100 selected participants to undertake a 1,000-kilometer heritage trek across the UAE desert, utilizing traditional transportation methods such as camel riding.

A Journey of Culture and Challenge

Misrah blends cultural immersion with physical adventure, offering an experience designed to enhance understanding of Emirati heritage, traditional craftsmanship, and local culture in all its authentic vibrancy.

This one-of-a-kind expedition not only strengthens ties to national identity but also builds physical resilience and mental fortitude.

The program unfolds in two stages. The first phase, taking place in Abu Dhabi, involves training 500 participants in fundamental skills, such as camel riding and Emirati traditional crafts and folk arts.

Hosted by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, these sessions ensure cultural authenticity and are led by experts to preserve and celebrate traditional knowledge.

From August through October, 60 participants will attend daily sessions four days a week, running from 4 PM to 8 PM.

By the end of this phase, 100 participants will be chosen to continue to the second stage—a 1,000-kilometer trek through the desert.

Practical and Cultural Mastery

Misrah’s curriculum covers a wide range of practical and theoretical modules, offering participants a comprehensive understanding of Emirati traditions.

Training includes the significance of camels in culture, care techniques, and anatomy, as well as assembling camel saddles using traditional tools like woven mats, bridles, and water pouches.

Workshops explore Emirati folk arts, including iconic performances like Al Ayala, Al Harbiya, and Al Taghrooda, alongside hands-on experiences such as preparing Emirati coffee, storytelling, and traditional campfire gatherings.

Participants will rotate between three interactive learning stations—The Coffee House, Folk Arts Workshops, and Camel Pastures—ensuring an immersive and well-rounded experience.
