Mountain Top, Pa. – Newswatch 16 reporter Chelsea Strub joined a group of natural bodybuilders at Danko's All American Fitness.

Led by Coach Vince Cardamone, the team was in the midst of their rigorous preparation for an upcoming competition.

On leg day, Coach Vince could be seen motivating Ashlee Martinelli at the squat rack. Ashlee and her teammates, all dedicated to bodybuilding, focus on their favorite muscle groups during their sessions.

Despite their varied exercise preferences, they share a common passion for bodybuilding.

"More people are involved in this sport than most realize, even within our gym and team.

When we gather, it's amazing to see how many of us there are," Martinelli said.

Jason Kish emphasized that while professional bodybuilding might seem dominated by elite athletes, local competitions foster a strong sense of community.

"People might envision massive bodybuilders and big money prizes at the elite level, but local shows are about community," he explained.

The NEPA Natural Bodybuilding team prides itself on competing without performance enhancers or steroids.

"You're hitting the gym first thing every morning for fasted cardio and maintaining a strict diet for 12 to 14 weeks to reach a condition most people never see," David Cruz shared.

While the majority of their transformation happens at the gym, nutrition also plays a crucial role, and Coach Vince guides them every step of the way.

"Each day has a specific focus. My coach outlines the weekly plan, so I know exactly what to do when I come in.

Not having to research my own program was a huge relief," Martinelli added.

Despite the challenges of nutrition, weight lifting, running, and maintaining dedication and discipline, the team agrees that posing is the toughest aspect of competition. "Posing is definitely the hardest part," Cruz stated.

"Without proper posing, competitors won't appear symmetrical. Everything needs to pop and be showcased correctly."

Both male and female bodybuilders have unique posing styles, but the goal remains the same.

After group posing, competitors get the chance to inject some personality into their routines by posing to music.

While each bodybuilder's motivation varies, they all agree on the supportive and fun nature of the community.

"The camaraderie within the bodybuilding culture is incredibly supportive," Kish concluded.

The dedication and hard work of NEPA Natural Bodybuilding exemplify the spirit of the sport, proving that even at the local level, the commitment and community are unmatched.
