The UAE is set to become an obstacle course racing hotspot in November 2025, with two marquee events on the calendar:

the Spartan Beast World Championship in Abu Dhabi and a back-to-back Spartan Race and Tough Mudder weekend in Hatta as part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge. From elites to first-timers, there’s a challenge for everyone.

Spartan Beast World Championship — Abu Dhabi

Spartan returns to the sweeping dunes of Al Wathba for its pinnacle event, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

  • Dates: November 20–23, 2025

  • Location: Al Wathba, about 30 minutes from Abu Dhabi city

Race categories and qualification:

  • 21K Beast World Championship: Elite, Age Group, and Open. Elite athletes compete for medals and cash prizes; Elite and Age Group receive awards.

  • 3K Team Relay World Championship: Elite-only.

  • 10K Super: Open category.

  • 5K Sprint: Women’s Night Challenge, Night Challenge, and Open.

  • Kids races (0.5–2 miles): Competitive and Open.

Elite qualification:

  • Top 25 Elite finish at any Beast distance (Dec 2, 2024–Nov 15, 2025), or

  • Top 10 Elite finish at any other Spartan distance in the same period.

Age Group and Open require no qualification—just bring your Spartan spirit.

The experience:

Expect Spartan’s largest festival to date, complete with Emirati cultural showcases, local cuisine, dune buggies, and a desert-oasis vibe among towering sand dunes.

Travel tips:

Fly into Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) and rent a car for convenience.

Spartan Race & Tough Mudder — Dubai Fitness Challenge, Hatta

As the Dubai Fitness Challenge kicks off—encouraging 30 minutes of daily activity for 30 days—Wadi Hub at Hatta Resorts hosts a double-header OCR weekend.

  • Dates: Saturday, November 1, and Sunday, November 2, 2025

  • Location: Wadi Hub, Hatta’s rugged mountain playground

Saturday (Spartan):

  • 5K Sprint: Fast and fiery

  • 10K Super: Intermediate test

  • 10K Trail: Scenic, non-obstacle run

  • 21K Trail: The ultimate non-obstacle endurance challenge

  • Kids by Spartan: 1K, 1.5K, and 3K distances

Sunday (Tough Mudder):

  • 5K and 15K muddy obstacle courses built for teamwork, grit, and a bit of chaos

  • A Spartan kids event will also run alongside Sunday’s action

Festival Village:

Both days feature a lively village with food stalls, entertainment, brand activations, and family-friendly experiences—turning race day into a full-day outing and the perfect way to embrace the DFC spirit.

Yes, it is definitely possible to walk a Spartan Race. Many participants, especially in open heats, choose to walk or jog portions of the course, particularly during longer distances or challenging terrain. It's common to see people walking or slow-jogging, especially on uphill sections or after completing obstacles. The most important thing is to enjoy the race and finish, whether you run the whole way or not.
