Dubai Active 2024, recognized as the leading health, fitness, and wellness expo in the Middle East, is scheduled from October 25-27 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo City.
Organized by IEG Middle East alongside Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Tourism, the event will host over 600 athletes and influencers, drawing in more than 38,000 fitness enthusiasts.
Attendees can look forward to engaging workout sessions led by international fitness stars like Leana Deeb, Kayla Itsines, and Courtney Black.
The expo also signals the start of the Dubai Fitness Challenge's month-long wellness campaign.
In recent exclusive discussions with City Times, both Leana and Courtney shared insights into their personal fitness journeys. Meanwhile, Kayla, who previously discussed integrating fitness into a 9-to-5 lifestyle, returns with additional guidance.
This time, the globally acclaimed personal trainer, dedicated to empowering women with the tools for better health, fitness, and confidence, offers essential tips for post-pregnancy workouts.
Here are Kayla's recommendations for achieving a healthier body:
'Rest and Recover'
For post-pregnancy training, it's crucial to prioritize rest and recovery. Collaborate with your healthcare provider to ensure you resume fitness activities safely.
Regardless of whether you had a natural birth or a c-section, the typical waiting period before returning to fitness is around six weeks.
While hitting the gym before this timeframe isn’t advised, there are certainly activities you can engage in to keep moving and clear your mind.
'Go for a Walk'
One suggestion is to take a walk during your baby’s nap. Personally, I started taking my child out in a stroller for an hour-long walk around the 4-5 week mark.
I also encourage women to explore the Sweat app (available on Google Play and Apple Store) for a variety of programs tailored to both pregnancy and post-pregnancy training. This includes routines for recovery after a c-section.
'Breathing and Stretching'
Remember, it's essential to rebuild your body's foundation before starting any exercise regimen. Focus on strengthening pelvic floor muscles, practicing controlled breathing, and stretching within safe limits.
Post-pregnancy is a phase where many women feel disconnected from their bodies, making mental health a priority. Pair physical activities like walking and stretching with deep breathing, meditation, adequate rest, and a balanced diet.
I want women to recognize that this is a brief phase in their lives. Rushing back into fitness prematurely or against medical advice may result in injury.
If I could tell myself one thing after pregnancy, it would be, "This phase won’t last forever. You won’t always feel like this. You'll look back and be proud—so cherish these moments, because you'll get there."
