The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) and World Triathlon have announced that the T100 Triathlon World Championship Final will be held in Dubai on November 16-17, completing the schedule for the inaugural 2024 T100 Triathlon World Tour.
Sam Renouf, CEO of the PTO, expressed excitement about concluding the first T100 Triathlon World Tour with a major race in a renowned location like Dubai.
Given the high interest from both local and international triathlon communities, Dubai was chosen to host this significant event.
With over 10,000 participants expected to compete across various distances and disciplines, the final event at Meydan racecourse against the backdrop of the Dubai skyline promises to be a grand finale.
Originally, an eight-race series was planned for 2024. However, due to logistical challenges in securing approval and preparing venues suitable for the T100 Triathlon World Championship Final, the decision was made to move the final race to Dubai.
The Dubai T100 Triathlon World Championship Final will also be a part of the month-long 2024 Dubai Fitness Challenge—a city-wide initiative encouraging residents and tourists to engage in daily workouts, fostering long-term healthy habits.
The fitness challenge has grown into a key part of Dubai's fitness culture, inspiring thousands to adopt healthier lifestyles.
In addition to naming the first T100 World Champions, officially recognized by World Triathlon, the Dubai event will allocate the remaining portion of a record $7 million prize fund, with $250,000 awarded at the race and an additional $2 million for the entire season's competition.
Marisol Casado, President of World Triathlon and IOC Member, spoke of the partnership with the PTO that launched this new series, highlighting Dubai as a fitting end to the series.
Chris Kermode, PTO Chairman, noted the series' aim to evolve triathlon by creating a narrative that spans the entire season, focusing on consistent competition among top athletes.
Here's a reminder of the T100 Triathlon World Tour structure:
- Points are awarded ranging from 35 for first place to 1 for 20th at each race.
- The Dubai Final offers increased points (55 for first down to 4 for 20th).
- Each athlete's best three race scores, plus their score from the Final, will determine the inaugural women's and men's T100 World Champions.
- The total prize fund across the seven races is $1,750,000, with individual race prizes of $25,000 for first place, $16,000 for second, and $12,000 for third.
- Winners after the Dubai Final will receive $210,000 from a $2,000,000 additional prize pool.
- The series provides over $7,000,000 in athlete compensation, rewarding not just winners but also recognizing the achievement of competing at this elite level.
Notes to Editors:
With the series now featuring seven races, contracted T100 athletes are required to participate in four races plus the Dubai Final.
Athletes who competed at the Olympics and required three T100 races and the Final can average scores from two T100 races to count as a third race ahead of the Dubai Final.
