A doctor has disclosed the ideal time to work out for optimal results. Dr. Neena Chandrasekaran, a pulmonary and critical care specialist, shared that feeling worse after workouts might not be about what you’re doing but when you’re doing it.

Recommending a shift in workout routines, Dr. Chandrasekaran, known as @neenziemd on TikTok, advised gym-goers that transitioning from morning to evening exercise could enhance fitness results.

She referenced a 2020 study published in Integrative Medicine Research, which found that exercising at night improves strength, endurance, and power.

She summarized the takeaway with "workout times actually matter," emphasizing that the study consistently showed evening workouts yielded better outcomes than morning workouts.

According to the doctor, this all ties back to the body's internal clock. While testosterone and cortisol levels may peak in the morning, this doesn’t guarantee better results.

Instead, factors like neuromuscular efficiency, reaction speed, and muscle temperature reach their highest levels later in the day, making the body more primed for improvement and adaptation.

Her advice? If early morning workouts leave you feeling drained, try exercising later in the day. Timing could be the key to unlocking better results.

For those concerned about evening workouts affecting sleep, Harvard Health supports Dr. Chandrasekaran's claims.

They cite 23 studies showing that evening exercise not only doesn’t harm sleep but can improve sleep quality, helping people fall asleep faster and spend more time in deep sleep.

However, they caution against engaging in high-intensity workouts, like interval training, less than an hour before bed as it may lead to poorer sleep.
