Fujairah Hosts the First Asian Yogasana Championship in the GCC
To enhance mental and physical well-being for all age groups, Ahmed Ibrahim, President of the UAE Yoga Committee and Vice President of the Asian Yogasana Federation, announced the UAE's aim to establish yoga as a lifestyle.
A key milestone is hosting the sixth Asian Yogasana Championship from August 9 to 11 in Fujairah. Organized by the Ministry of Sports with support from the UAE Sports for All Federation and the UAE Yoga Committee, this event is the first of its kind in the GCC.
Participants across multiple age groups will compete by performing designated yoga poses to advance through the rounds.
“In each category, participants are required to demonstrate five to six yoga poses. For example, children will perform five, while adults will demonstrate six. Successfully completing these poses is necessary to qualify for the next round,” Ibrahim explained.
Arabic Yoga Workshop Sees Regional Participation
Recently, a one-day yoga workshop organized by the Asian Yogasana Sport Federation (AYSF) in Dubai garnered participants from the UAE, Bahrain, Palestine, Iraq, Kuwait, Egypt, and Algeria.
This workshop, conducted in Arabic, offered training for referees and coaches.
“Today, we have certified Emirati judges and coaches, alongside participants from multiple other nationalities,” Ibrahim noted.
Proposals to Integrate Yoga into Education
The UAE's dedication to yoga doesn’t stop at competitive events; it extends to educational integration.
“We are reaching out to schools and universities to incorporate yoga into their curriculums,” said Ibrahim. Proposals from the AYSF workshop focused on tailoring yoga systems to local needs, expanding educational pathways, and bringing yoga programs to the Arab region.
