We had the chance to speak with one of the event's main attractions, featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, who will battle No.2 ranked Max Holloway.
What’s On Abu Dhabi: How are you feeling ahead of this major event in the UAE capital?
Ilia Topuria: I'm feeling excellent. I'm nearing the end of my training, focusing on weight cutting now – and I'm prepared to claim what belongs to me.
WOAD: Can you share some insights into how you've prepared for stepping into the cage?
IT: Preparation has been successful. Honestly, I can't say it's been my hardest training camp, but it has definitely been the most professional.
I aim to enhance my skills at each camp by incorporating new techniques, so everything has gone smoothly.
WOAD: You have a dedicated following of Georgian and Spanish fans cheering for you at UFC 308. What message do you have for them?
IT: I'd like to tell them that anything is achievable. Your origin doesn't matter as long as you know your destination. Trust in yourself, keep faith, and you'll achieve your desires. Belief in oneself creates reality.
WOAD: Abu Dhabi has emerged as a strong UFC hub. What are your plans in the UAE capital aside from the fight?
IT: I adore Abu Dhabi and have fond memories from my previous visits. It's an incredible feeling to be back, and we're planning to explore the museums while we're here.
WOAD: Considering the UFC's expansion, where would you like the sport to head next?
IT: I don't have a specific place in mind; I'd like to see the UFC expand globally.
WOAD: Anything else you'd like to say to the excited fans?
IT: Don't miss the fight; it's going to be the most thrilling ten seconds in UFC history. Expect fireworks—I'm ready, I hope Max is ready, and this is all for you.
