Over 40 athletes—men, women, boys, and girls—are set to compete in the Barbados Bodybuilding and Fitness Association’s National Championships on Saturday, August 17, at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.

The event will feature seven categories, with the competition kicking off at 5:00 pm.

The top performers will earn the chance to represent Barbados at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships.

Leanna Carter of J&S Fitness will defend her Women’s Physique title, which she won in 2023.

She also claimed victory at the Barbados Nationals in 2019 and the Body Figure Nationals in 2017.

Her primary competitor will be Eureka Goodridge from Beyond Limits Fitness Centre, who is entering her first competition after years of training.

In the Women’s Wellness category, Maria Grimes (Bodyshapers), former Bikini Fitness champion Tiffany Campbell (Hong Fitness Studios), and Janelle Butcher (ABC Fitness Studios) will compete.

The Women’s Bikini Class will be highly contested, with seven participants aiming for gold.

Competitors include newcomer Danniell Francis from Hilton Gym; Sherri-Lyn Burke from Twin Gym; Trudi-Ann Bovell from Body Shapers Personal Training Services; Twin Gym veteran Michelle Bryan; Terissa Bushell from ABC Fitness; rookie Shanice Mason from Level Up; and masters’ athlete Joyann Holford.

The Women’s Body Fitness and Women’s Fit Model categories currently have one entry each.

Danielle Holder of Body By Kirk is registered for Women’s Body Fitness, and Aaliyah Ellis from ABC Fitness Studios for Women’s Fit Model.

The Men’s Physique category has attracted seven competitors. Three-time Mr. Bridgetown, Julian Belgrave (Valley Fitness Zone); four-time ABC Inter-Gym Masters’ champion, Shone Springer (Formula Gym); and Cole Yates (Strike Force) will compete in both the senior and master divisions.

Other senior competitors include Raymond Edwards (Holos Health); CAC contender Tyrell Forde (Bodyshapers Personal Training Services); Bukkiah Providence (Better Life Fitness Workshop); and Carl Harewood (Beyond Limits).

In Men’s Classic Physique, two-time defending champion and back-to-back CAC medallist Jurad Mason (X-Tremebody Mechanic) will face new challengers including Kirk Bovell (Body Shapers Personal Training Services); Micaiah Gittens (Club Fitness – Coverly); Keliel Marshall (Beyond Limits Fitness); Dadrian Holder (Beyondyourlimits); and Renaldo Bourne.

The Men’s Bodybuilding Class will feature three seniors and three masters.

Curtis Kirby (Body Shapers Personal Training) and four-time masters winner Roger Streeks (Betterlife Fitness) will compete in both divisions.

2023 Mr. Barbados Sanaj Lewis (Applegrove) is slated to compete in the senior division, with Kirk Bovell (Body Shapers Personal Training) taking on the masters.

Four children are registered for Children’s Fitness. They include Jadae Darlington (Tumblebugs Kids Gymnastics); Aaron Small (Acroflex); Ariya Bynoe (Acroflex); and Sariah Baird (Tumblebugs Kids Gymnastics).
