Za’abeel Park in Dubai hosted the 15th annual Beat Diabetes Walk, organized by Landmark Group’s Beat Diabetes program.
The event drew over 16,500 participants, including 3,500 children, aiming to raise awareness about diabetes, with a particular focus on pediatric diabetes.
It underscored the importance of early detection, prevention, and adopting a healthy lifestyle to manage diabetes effectively.
Rising Pediatric Diabetes Cases
A concerning highlight of this year’s walk was the growing prevalence of Type 1 diabetes. Reports show that 24,000 children in the UAE were diagnosed in 2024, emphasizing the urgent need to focus on child health.
Community Collaboration
Supporting UAE’s Year of Community and aligning with the “Forward Society” pillar of the "We the UAE 2031 Vision,” the event saw widespread involvement from private organizations, government bodies, schools, and community groups.
A key collaboration included partnering with GEMS Education for the Superkidz Writing Competition.
Over a thousand Grade 4 and Grade 5 students from GEMS schools participated by submitting creative entries.
Engaging Activities
The event featured a 2-kilometer walk complemented by fitness challenges, sports events, and educational sessions.
Health services were also provided, such as free blood glucose testing through Al Jalila Foundation’s "Wellness on Wheels," influenza vaccines, and nutritional consultations by Emirates Health Services.
Event Launch and Leadership
The walk was officially inaugurated by Renuka Jagtiani, Chairwoman of Landmark Group; Saeed Mohammed Hareb, Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council; and Dr. Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation.
Saeed Hareb praised the event for promoting an active lifestyle, while Dr. Zarooni stressed the importance of community-driven health programs that prioritize prevention, early detection, and patient-centered care.
Nisha Jagtiani, representing Landmark Group, expressed her gratitude to the community and emphasized the value of regular diabetes testing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Proceeds and Legacy
Launched in 2009, the Beat Diabetes campaign directs all event proceeds to the Al Jalila Foundation for diabetes research and treatment, further contributing to advancing solutions and care for diabetes patients.
This year's event reinforced its mission of inspiring individuals to take proactive steps toward better health and well-being.
