Dubai Basketball, the emirate’s inaugural professional basketball team, has embarked on a training camp in Slovenia as they gear up for an unprecedented season.
This marks the first time a team from Dubai will compete in a European league, as they join the ABA League alongside teams from the Balkans region of Europe.
The newly established squad recently traveled to Koper, Slovenia for their initial training camp under the leadership of head coach Jurica Golemac and his staff.
The camp began on August 19 and will run through September 2.
August 20 was a milestone for the club, as it allowed the entire first-team roster, along with two players from the club’s academy, to train and play together for the first time with just a month before the new season starts.
During their time in Slovenia, the team is set to compete in four games against KK Dinamo, Buducnost, KK Split, and KRKA.
Head coach Golemac remarked, “This camp is a fantastic chance for us to unite as a team and get ready for the season.
The players have only been together for a week, but already I am seeing promising signs of them connecting and forming a cohesive unit.”
He added, “This will be an intense camp for the players, with rigorous training sessions and challenging games, but the experience we gain over these two weeks in Slovenia will be invaluable.”
After their stint in Slovenia, the team will return to Dubai for seven days, during which they will play a pre-season friendly at Coca-Cola Arena on September 10.
Subsequently, they will travel to Sarajevo, Bosnia, from September 14-16 to participate in the Mirza Delibašić tournament, facing off against Cluj from Romania and either Dinamo Sassari from Italy or KK Bosna from Sarajevo.
Their ABA League season kicks off on September 22 with a game against the defending champions, Red Star, at Coca-Cola Arena.
