Blogger David Thompson visited the Best Gyms In Dubai, here is what he had to say.

We all need to maintain as active a lifestyle as possible. Regular exercise, in whatever form it comes, is vital to our health: we can all benefit from it, no matter our age, weight, body type, athleticism, or exercise preferences (or any other factors, for that matter!). So search for a 'Gym Near Me' and find the most suitable Gym for you!

We should try to be as active as possible.

Making your health and fitness a priority- getting and remaining active for as long as possible- will bring you a laundry list of physical and mental health benefits.

Regular exercise can:

  • Help you to maintain a healthy weight
  • Improve your mood, both acutely and non-acutely
  • Give you more energy
  • Improve your cardiovascular and respiratory system functions
  • Lead to a stronger immune system
  • Keep your muscles and bones healthy and functioning
  • Reduce your risk of suffering a multitude of chronic diseases, like heart disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes
  • Lead to improved cognitive function
  • Help you to overcome symptoms of stress and depression
  • Lead to better sleep
  • Help you to manage pain
  • Improve your mobility
  • Improve your libido

This list is far from exhaustive- there really are dozens, if not hundreds, of different benefits you can get from staying active. By making your fitness a priority, you can make the most of these benefits.

Joining a local gym can represent one of the easiest, most comfortable and least intimidating ways to begin working on your fitness. There are a few reasons that often make training at a gym the best bet for anybody looking to make some positive life changes:

  • Accountability
  • Safety
  • Expertise
  • Variety
  • Company
  • Comfort

With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of some of the Best Gyms in Dubai. Whether you’re a seasoned pro looking to find somewhere new, or a complete newcomer looking to get into it, whether you like stripped down, value-for-money gyms or high-end, exclusive places, Dubai’s gym circuit can cater for you- there really are a lot of different places from which you can choose.

The gyms in our list all have a couple of things in common: they are all great places to raise a sweat, spend your free time and get into the shape you need to live your best life.

Best gyms in Dubai

Whatever your goals, requirements and tastes, there will be a nearby gym in Dubai for you. Whether you’re looking for weight loss, bodybuilding, aerobics classes, yoga, personal training, or other any of the many classes and styles catered for by gyms throughout the city, you will find what you want in our rundown.

We’ve looked through all the major players on the local fitness scene and found 5 gyms in Dubai that are well worth checking out.

GymNation

GymNation are the UAE’s most affordable and flexible gym group. Their memberships start at just AED99 per month and come with no-contract-cancel-anytime membership options. Their gyms are welcoming spaces where a policy of no-judgments is actively sought out and created.

GymNation are passionate about supporting everyone, from absolute beginners to advanced athletes, as they work towards their health and fitness goals. This is why they keep their memberships affordable and their customers’ control, and why they keep their venues friendly and welcoming.

GymNation work hard to make sure everybody in the UAE has an affordable and welcoming gym option with the best fitness classes on offer: they even go so far as to call themselves ‘the peoples’ gym’. If you’re new to the gym, they will represent the best option: a third of their members are first-time gym users who are only just starting on their health and fitness journey.

Theirs are also some of the largest gym facilities in the UAE; their flagship venue is a 45,000-square-foot space that feels cool and modern with an urban, industrial edge. It hosts a spinning studio, a large cardio area, a boxing ring, a free-weights area, and three separate studios for classes. Their gyms come with state-of-the-art Matrix gym equipment. They also offer virtual, on-demand classes, giving you a degree of flexibility over your training and allowing you to take back control.

GymNation also offer over 200 free classes per month and boast a separate ladies-only gym and studio (if you’ve ever wanted to know, ‘Is there a ladies’ gym near me?’, don’t worry- GymNation have a ladies only section in each one of their sites). They are open 24/7 and, to top it off, you can also choose to work out via the on-demand virtual-reality classes, whereby you can select any class, time, and workout and follow the guidance of an instructor on screen.

It is a perfect place to go if you’re looking to shake up your life and begin to put your fitness first.

Though there are several Fitness First venues operating in Dubai, Fitness First Dubai Deira City Centre is one of the best gyms going. Gold’s Gym

Dubai is lucky enough to play host to a few legends of the gym scene. They have internationally renowned fitness centres and wellness facilities. As the city moves its focus more and more onto health and fitness, it is attracting some of the world’s bigger players: amongst these, there are few with such a legend behind them as Gold’s Gym.

Gold’s Gym has branches throughout the UAE and Oman and its particular focus in Dubai has significantly boosted and nurtured local gym culture over the last ten or so years.

All of the Gold’s Gyms in Dubai are equipped with modern machines and offer a variety of programs. New members also get a complimentary session with a personal trainer.

Gold’s Gym offer all the latest in cardio and strength training apparatus, alongside a full, mixed schedule of fitness classes with everything from yoga to spin, martial arts, strength and endurance training to Pilates. They are famous for encouraging a hardworking, driven yet friendly environment in their facilities, with every member of their team, both on-sight and off, being committed to their members hitting their fitness goals.

Becoming a Gold’s Gym member means something quite special. It isn’t just about the brand or wearing the t-shirt- there’s a philosophy of strength, endurance and determination running through everything Gold’s Gym stands for. If you sign up with them, you bear this philosophy and are encouraged to see it through. You become part of a long tradition of strong, driven athletes looking to become the physically best versions of themselves that they can possibly be.

Warehouse Gym

Warehouse Gym is a good place to go for those who like to work out in style. Where some gyms may be drab, focussing more on function than form, Warehouse Gym look to change things up a fair amount, offering more than simple machines and stark brickwork walls.

Famed for its CrossFit classes, the gym also hosts boxing workouts, spinning classes, PT sessions, and weightlifting stations. As the name suggests, you’ll be working out in a warehouse, complete with neon lights, graffiti, and wall art that adds a fun and urban vibe to the space. They have introduced colour, art and music to the plain gym aesthetic. They say they set themselves up with the goal of not letting their members rest or get bored. They wanted them sweating to loud music surrounded by bright colours and feeling the kind of buzz you might usually find in a nightclub.

With this in mind, they’ve kitted their gym out just like a nightclub, with live DJs and nightclub lighting working together to create a bold statement on what it means to be a modern gym. They fixed containers inside the gym ‘to use the language of material’ and decorated everything in a bid showcase graffiti to give the gym a tough, urban feel.

They have also just opened up a venue at The Beach, opposite JBR. This new gym is the perfect place for beach bums to go to get their training in, enjoying the beachside atmosphere and cooler climes.

Fit Republik

Fit Republik are tucked away slightly in Dubai’s Sports City, but once you uncover them, you’ll find a venue unlike any other- sprawling, vast and filled with everything you could ever need on your fitness journey. They have state of the art equipment, a 50m swimming pool, top quality training and weightlifting areas, including CrossFit rigs, 12 weightlifting stations, martial arts, gymnastics, barre, yoga, Pilates, an outdoor running track, and even cryotherapy on offer.

They also boast a healthy restaurant and a nice lounge, making it feel more like a community than a simple gym. Nathalie’s, a kitchen concept that steers clear of additives, preservatives and all those synthetic ingredients your nutritionist may have warned you about, instead serves fresh, healthy, wholesome foods designed to keep you fighting fit and help you recover from the most gruelling of training sessions.

As they say on their website, you could spend a whole day at Fit Republik and barely scratch the surface, ‘making it perfect for anyone who gets bored doing the same old thing at the gym. Try out a group class, book in with a PT, or just hang out and get inspired whilst sipping on your juice’.

Max & Aegle

Meydan’s mega new fitness centre Max & Aegle has taken Dubai’s fitness scene by storm, though they are only a few months old.

Their venue is massive, covering a full 500,000 square feet. It has everything you could possibly want from a world-class gym, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a 1,400-meter running track, yoga lawn with Downtown skyline view, and plenty of cardio and weightlifting equipment. You need never be bored, and you need never run out of things to do.

You can also control the environment in which you train, with great options for both indoor and outdoor fitness (and, as mentioned above, bags of room in which to work out). And, though it is so large (big enough to accommodate 5,000 or so customers!) Max & Aegle limits members numbers to only 2,000. You really will be spoilt for room.

They have five specialised indoor training zones, ranging from conditioning stations to cross-training, functional training, and even some martial arts thrown in. They boast a complete schedule of varied fitness classes, as you would expect from any gym, with ladies-only options and dedicated classes for children.

Memberships include a Fit3D Body Scan, a one-month nutrition plan, and a health assessment. To top things off, there’s also a juice bar and restaurant on site, called 100&Ten, where you can chill out with your fellow athletes whilst enjoying healthy snacks and light bites.

Gyms should be incredibly positive, social spaces, filled with positive, outgoing, like-minded people who will be into the same kinds of things with you and who will be able to help you out and encourage you.

If your local gym isn’t like this, find a different one. The best gyms are supportive, so go onto Google, type in ‘Gyms Near Me’ or ‘Best Gym in Dubai’ and find a better gym! There are plenty of gyms in big cities like Dubai: as our list has proven, you should be spoilt for choice, and there will always be something for you.

If you want to keep things reasonable whilst enjoying one of the best gyms in the world, try out GymNation. If you want luxury and exclusivity, go for Max & Aegle. If you want to be part of a worldwide network of fitness enthusiasts, Fitness First or Gold’s Gym will have you covered. If you want something vibrant and funky, give Warehouse Gym or Fit Republik a go.

Choose the one that suits you best; going in will be a pleasure, an inspiration, and a process of positive reinforcement.
